Open-market dollar rate from that month to today

Wages and prices in Iran are quoted in toman, but for years the dollar has been the real yardstick of what money is worth. This tool shows what you would hold today had you converted that sum to dollars (or gold coins) in the month you pick.

⚠ This is a comparison against the open-market dollar rate in Tehran, not official inflation. Each month's rate is the average of that month's daily closing prices. Nothing here is a forecast or investment advice.

FAQ

How is the value of my money over time calculated?

Your amount is turned into rials (1 toman = 10 rials), divided by that month's average open-market dollar rate to get dollars, and then multiplied by today's rate. The loss is 1 − (that month's rate ÷ today's rate).

Is this the same as inflation?

No. Official inflation is measured with a basket of goods by the Statistical Centre and the central bank. This tool compares only the dollar value of the toman — useful as a global purchasing-power yardstick, but not a substitute for official inflation.

Where does the dollar rate come from?

From tgju.org, Tehran's open-market board. A month's rate is the average of the daily closes in that Iranian (Jalali) month.
